About BioGENIE®

BioGENIE® is a blend of ingredients used an additive to plastics that are proven to significantly increase the rate of plastic aerobic and anaerobic biodegradation in treated products. There are approximately hundred million tons of plastic waste produced each year worldwide that ends up in landfills each year. As a result, landfills are filling up faster due to plastic biodegrading at an extremely slow rate. In response to this problem, BIOGENIE® is the solution.

How Does BioGENIE® Accelerate the Plastic Biodegradation Process?

Adding BioGENIE® to the manufacturing process plastic polyolefin will creates a catalyst for aerobic and anaerobic biodegradation. When exposed to UV sun light, the carbonyl groups from polymer will form free radicals along the polymer chain. These free radicals can then react with surrounding oxygen to initiate a chain scission reaction, leading to the breakdown of the polymer chain. The additive initiate the degradation in the presence of moisture and soil bacteria. It will be attacked by microorganisms which degrades the polymer chain to shorter segments of polymer chain. These chains are converted into functional group fragments biomass and form CO2 and H2O as end product for aerobic and form biomass, CO2 and Methane (CH4) as end product for anaerobic process. This additive can be used in low concentrations to enhance the biodegradability of polyolefins, making single-use plastics environmentally friendly and easier to dispose off without change into microplastics.
